Dewald Brevis has etched his name in the history books of SA20 after becoming the costliest player in history at the Season 4 auction in Joburg. The young batting sensation initiated a bitter bidding battle between Joburg Super Kings and Pretoria Capitals before the Capitals acquired his services for a record Rand 16.5 million (βΉ8.31 crore). The auction started with the combined purse of US$7.37 million ready across six franchises to be used to fill 84 vacant spots. Each franchise came in with a salary cap of US$2.31 million, making SA20 the second wealthiest T20 competition in the world after IPL. Brevis's price broke the earlier record set during the day when Aiden Markram signed for Durban Super Giants for Rand 14 million. The bidding battle was expected, especially after Brevis impressed as a replacement signing for Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025. His performance there caught the attention of scouts and coaches, resulting in him becoming the most sought-after player in the SA20 pool. ππππ ππππ ππππβΌοΈπ πππ πππ ππππππ πΈπ€Dewald Brevis is heading to @PretoriaCapsSA for R16,500,000 β #BetwaySA20Auction — Betway SA20 (@SA20_League) September 9, 2025 Also Read | SA20 2025-26 Fixtures Out: MI Cape Town vs Durban to Kick Off Season 4 Teams, Purses, and Auction Highlights This year's SA20 auction witnessed more than 800 registrations that were subsequently reduced to 541 players, 300 South Africans and 241 foreign cricketers.
