It's a no-brainer that it will shock the entire world that the gym freak Virat Kohli will ever take retirement from his most favorite Test format at the age of 36, that too without reaching 10,000 runs in the format! And since then, there have been rumors and leaks and reports everywhere answering the most popular question- why? Amongst so many answers received, just another one flew in. Reports, again, suggested that, a denied captaincy after Adelaide's Test made him leave the format. Kohli, no doubt, was one of the greatest Test captains India had. There were tons of questions when he gave away his Test captaincy in 2022, right after coming back from South Africa, losing the three-match Test series. It was an Instagram post too, shocking the world, and now his retirement, in the same way, following a Border-Gavaskar Trophy defeat after a decade, has had similar reactions, probably more intense. However, this time, among many possibilities, a source close to the developments informed India Today that, Kohli expected captaincy back after the Adelaide Test. At least there were hints, but things turned otherwise. The source said, "At least people close to him do seem to suggest that he was given sort of a hint that he would be getting captaincy after Adelaide. But then things changed." While some said that the management was trying to give it back to Kohli and drop Rohit Sharma, some said they were looking for new faces for the new cycle. Along with struggling Kohli, the 38-year-old Rohit Sharma, too, looked like a burden to them. Again, its the reports that suggested that the team management was holding a selection meeting in Mumbai where they were not planning to move forward with Rohit. And then, the Instagram story came in Rohit's account thanking Test cricket, on May 7. It was said that Kohli expressed his urge to give up and the management requested a U-turn. Never mind, big names have so many stories building up. Some come up with views, while some come as "reports." But the legacy stays unmatched no matter what.
