The Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi received a serious scare on Friday (9 May) when a bomb threat appeared amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan. The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) received an email threatening to bomb the stadium. Tension has been simmering between India and Pakistan. Both nations have been taking aggressive measures, with reports of missile and drone warfare emerging from both sides. The email came in the midst of the tense atmosphere as the DDCA got an email about the Pakistan-backed sleeper cells operating throughout India, and the email said these sleeper cells would target the Arun Jaitley Stadium, along with a specific warning claiming an explosion would happen at the stadium. The mail stated: "We’ve Pak faithful sleeper cells across India. We will activate them for Op Sindoor. We will blast your stadium.” Fortunately, this threat was a hoax. Security forces responded quickly enough. The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS), dog squad, along with the Delhi Police thoroughly searched the stadium to ensure safety. The DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that they had received a threatening email and they quickly informed the police. He went on to say the bomb squad arrived quickly but the bomb squad could not find any explosives or evidence that may contain explosives at the venue. Speaking to PTI, he said: We received a bomb threat via email on the address of DDCA. We immediately forwarded it to Delhi Police. The Delhi Police bomb squad came and inspected the whole venue. Nothing was found. A senior official from the Delhi Police also said that they had found no cause for suspicion but had nonetheless ramped up security in and around the stadium with public safety in mind.
