The former Indian cricketer and World Cup winner, Munaf Patel, has joined Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025 as their new bowling coach. The franchise made the announcement on Tuesday, that Munaf will join the coaching staff led by the head coach Hemang Badani for the upcoming season. Since retiring from competitive cricket in 2018, Munaf has participated in various tournaments featuring retired players, but this role marks his first significant coaching assignment. According to a Cricbuzz report, both Badani and Venugopal Rao, the new director of cricket, will have complete autonomy from the Capitals' management in assembling the remainder of the coaching team. The 2011 World Cup winning bowler has represented Team India in 13 Test matches, 70 ODIs, and three T20Is from 2006 to 2011. After frequently being sidelined by the selectors, he ultimately retired from international cricket in 2018. In addition to his international career, Munaf also played in the IPL, where he represented the Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians, and Gujarat Lions. Notably, he was part of the Mumbai Indians squad that won the IPL title in 2013. It is also worth noting that DC has retained only four players from their previous squad: Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Tristan Stubbs, and Abishek Porel. They will head into the mega auction of IPL 2025 which is scheduled to take place on November 24 and 25 in Jeddah with the third-highest purse of INR 73 crore.
