Indian allrounder Deepti Sharma will captain UP Warriorz in WPL 2025 after regular skipper Alyssa Healy had to skip the competition. the Australian player, who just played a single one-off Ashes Test purely as a batter following a stress reaction, has been told to rest for a few more weeks. The all-rounder has been part of the UP Warriorz right from the first edition and has bagged the second highest number of wickets with 19 from 17 games. Deepti had also become the first Indian to pick up a hat-trick in the WPL while registering her incredible run last year when she was named the MVP for scoring 295 runs. The 27-year-old is India's leading wicket-taker in T20Is and hails from Uttar Pradesh. She will become the first player to lead her home franchise in their home stadium with the tournament expanding to more venues this season. UP Warriorz will kick start their campaign in February against Gujarat Giants and are scheduled to play three games at home next month. Warriorz will, however, miss Healy sorely. She is their highest run-scorer in the WPL, with 428 runs in 17 outings.Healy has struggled with injuries lately. She missed the T20I series in the Women's Ashes and played in the MCG Test only after clearing a last-minute fitness test. However, Healy did not keep wicket.
