Deepak Chahar, star fast bowler, made his debut for Mumbai Indians (MI) against his old team Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Sunday, March 23. The first 'El-Clasico' of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) between two five-time champions saw CSK win by four wickets. Chahar performed well, though going against his old side. He came out when MI was faltering at 118/7 in the 17th over. The seam-bowling all-rounder hit two fours and two sixes, as he and Mumbai placed a par total of 155/9 in 20 overs. In just his second over, the 32-year-old claimed the wicket of Rahul Tripathi to finish with 1/18 in two overs. Deepak's sister Malti posted a funny meme on social media in reaction to her brother's performance, with some humorous trolly comments, saying it was like going against his prior team, similar to Kattappa betraying Baahubali. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma held the innings together, but Noor Ahmad's four-wicket haul in the middle overs put a dent in MI's plans. Chasing 156, CSK lost Tripathi early on, but Ruturaj Gaikwad attacked with a whirlwind 53 off just 26 balls to relieve pressure. The middle-order of CSK struggled for a while, but opener Rachin Ravindra held his ground, scoring 65 not out off 45 balls to lead CSK to victory with five deliveries to spare. On March 28, CSK will face Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their home ground, while MI will clash with Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on March 29.
