The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) senior men’s selection committee meeting scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, was deferred following the forceful intrusion of secretary Ashok Sharma. Reports indicate that Sharma attempted to attend the proceedings despite an Ombudsman directive explicitly barring Apex Council members from participating in selection committee meetings. Committee member Manjeet Singh objected to Sharma’s presence, highlighting that it would contravene the Ombudsman’s orders. Anand Verma and Harish Singla also advised Sharma against attending. When he refused to comply, the three members collectively opted to defer the meeting, prioritising adherence to established rules. A formal complaint regarding the breach has been submitted to the Ombudsman, and the meeting will remain postponed until further instructions are received. He claimed that the Apex Council members had overstepped their roles, undermining both credibility and transparency. Sharma emphasized that selection should follow BCCI guidelines and past DDCA practices, with the committee composed of eminent cricketers convened by the Secretary. Sharma noted deviations from precedent, where only the Secretary and Joint Secretary attended meetings. He also pointed to the presence of some directors, citing potential conflicts of interest, as one director had a family member under consideration. In a release, Sharma said, “It has come to our attention that the recent selection committee meeting deviated from past practices… We kindly request that future selection committee meetings adhere to established protocols to maintain transparency, fairness, and the integrity of the selection process." The DDCA selection committee awaits further guidance from the Ombudsman before rescheduling the meeting.
