Daryl Mitchell has created history, becoming the new No.1 ODI batter in the latest ICC rankings. The rise came after a match-winning century against the West Indies, which propelled him past Rohit Sharma, who was at the top for a short time. This is a special moment for New Zealand cricket, as he is the first New Zealander in 46 years to reach the No.1 position. Before him, Glenn Turner was the only Kiwi who achieved this milestone back in 1979. Mitchell scored a solid 119 off 118 balls in the first ODI against the West Indies. The composed and mature innings by him helped New Zealand take control of the match and also lifted his ICC rating points to 782. Consequently, he went ahead of Rohit Sharma, who has 781 points at present. The slip of Ibrahim Zadran also gave Mitchell the top position for the first time in his career.
