Chennai Super Kings faces a huge challenge in their effort to curb Nicholas Pooran in their match against Lucknow Super Giants. Pooran, wearing the Orange Cap, is in fine form with some of his best cricketing displays. He has been phenomenal with four half-centuries in six matches, averaging an astounding 69.80. CSK has just two bowlers who have done reasonably well against Pooran, and they will have to come up with a performance to contain him. Mateesha Pathirana is among CSK's best prospects. The Sri Lankan pacer has bowled 25 balls against Pooran in T20s, having conceded just 23 runs while dismissing him four times. The thing is, Pathirana is usually a death-overs bowler, which means CSK will have to find other options to control Pooran early on in the innings. He is yet another bowler done well against Pooran, Ravichandran Ashwin. Although not in his best form after a decade back returning to CSK, he holds solid credentials against the thundering southpaw. In T20s, Ashwin would have bowled 43 balls to Pooran, of which 40 runs have been scored and three wickets claimed. In six innings so far, he has scored 188 runs with a dizzying strike rate of 272.46, including 22 sixes and 10 boundaries. His average against spin is an astonishing 94.00. Even CSK's leading bowler this season, Noor Ahmad, would have to apply caution against Pooran. CSK is desperate for a turnaround after suffering five consecutive losses; however, stopping Pooran is key to their hopes.
