The cricket fraternity heaved a collective relief as the legendary India captain MS Dhoni finally cleared the air over his participation in the coming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2025), much needed for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their fans. The deadline date for retention arrives soon, and the legendary captain's decision to continue playing has made CSK's retention strategy a little clearer. As much as the announcement was not exactly unforeseen, the franchise waited for confirmation from their iconic player. The five-time IPL champions are busy finalizing their retention list, in which Dhoni is to have a crucial word with franchise owner N Srinivasan in the coming days. Interestingly, Dhoni will be retained as an uncapped player following the reviving of a previously scrapped rule by the IPL Governing Council. CSK's retention plan now seems to finally be getting crystal-clear. With Ravindra Jadeja likely to be the first retention at INR 18 crores, the newly appointed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad will likely be the second retention at INR 14 crores. Sri Lankan pace sensation Matheesha Pathirana has agreed to be the third retention at INR 11 crores. According to reports, his manager recently finalized the deal in Chennai. The franchise still has space for two more retention under the maximum limit of six players, that is, with a cap of five capped players. The management is currently considering options in the form of Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and the uncapped Sameer Rizvi. The final choices would be made during the upcoming discussion between Srinivasan and Dhoni, who is expected to return to Ranchi from Goa shortly.
