If Ravichandran Ashwin's claims come out justified, then Chennai Super Kings might land into some trouble! In his recent YouTube video, the former Indian spinner R. Ashwin exposed how CSK bought the South African star batter Dewald Brevis by meeting his demand. According to Ashwin, Brevis was not happy with CSK offering to pay his base price of 2.2 crore. The CSK management had an intense bargaining episode with the Brevis' agents and then paid the extra amount. However, according to the official announcement, what CSK made after acquiring Brevis was that they paid him INR 2.2 crore. Reflecting on the entire procedure, Ashwin said on his video, "I will tell you something. About Brevis. He had a great time last IPL with CSK. In fact, a few teams were talking to him. A few teams left him because of the price. When he was supposed to be signed as a replacement, he was supposed to be signed at the base price. But what happens is you talk to the agents and the player will say, if you give me X amount extra, I will come." He further added, "That happens because the player knows if he is released next season, he will go for good money. So his concept was that, you pay me good money now else I will go for more next year. And CSK were ready to pay him, hence he came. In the back half, the CSK combination was strong. They will go with Rs 30 crore in IPL 2026 mini auction." Read also: 3 Teams That Could Target Sanju Samson in IPL 2026 Trade After CSK Pulls Out Will CSK land in trouble? Notably, CSK signed Dewald Brevis as an injury replacement of Gurjapneet Singh. CSK was salso struggling to find the right batting combo. And after getting the Mumbaikar Ayush Mhatre and then Brevis, the top-order issue was almost sorted. But the replacement buys occur in a different way. Each franchise has a highest budget of INR 120 crore, and the franchises are asked to form a team with a minimum number of players. As per IPL Player replacement rules, the replacement player's signing amount can't be more than the injured player's. CSK signed Gurjanpreet for INR 2.2 cr, and in that case, if Brevis had received INR 2.2 cr, it would be fair. But if Ashwin's claims are proven right and BCCI intervenes, there might arise some problems.
