India is celebrating the 17th anniversary of its 2007 T20 World Cup win on Tuesday, September 24. On this day, 17 years ago, India beat Pakistan by five runs in the final at Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg. Captain MS Dhoni decided to bat first, and with Gautam Gambhir's 75 and Rohit Sharma's quick 30 from 16 balls, India scored 157/5 in 20 overs. In response, Pakistan was bowled out for 152 in 19.3 overs. Irfan Pathan and RP Singh took three wickets each. He concluded with 35 runs in four ODIs and four wickets in four T20Is. His last game for India was on September 16, 2007, wherein India lost to New Zealand by a margin of 10 runs in Johannesburg. In that match, he conceded 40 runs in four overs without any wickets. He did not play in the next four matches and never played for India again after that tournament. Agarkar ended his career with 288 runs and 58 wickets in 191 ODIs and 26 Tests, respectively. He scored 571 runs in Test matches and 1,269 runs in ODIs. Pakistan won the first semi-final beating New Zealand in a very narrow and close game by six wickets. India, meanwhile, had Australia for a scalp in the second semi-final. Tough battle it would be as India won eventually to book itself in the final.
