Cricket has been giving birth to different formats, trying to shorten the time period. However, on October 16, entrepreneur Gaurav Bahirvani started an odd but unique format named Test-Twenty. Test Twenty is basically an amalgamation of both the Test and T20 formats. Unlike Test cricket, which has no limitations of overs per innings, Test Twenty will be playing 20 overs per innings. There will four innings, just like Test cricket. And each innings will have 20 overs; that means Test Twenty will be an 80-over match. Similar to Test cricket rules, Test Twenty will also have the traditional win, loss and even a draw. Gaurav Bahirvani, Executive Chairman of The One One Six Network, launched this format in order to meet the fast-paced broadcasting nature while maintaining the essence of Test Cricket. Notably, Test Cricket has been the fourth format of international cricket. Test Twenty’s foundation lies in its cutting-edge AI Discovery Engine — a sophisticated system that integrates video analytics, motion-sensor tech, and data science to evaluate players’ abilities and potential objectively. Via Tech-Transfer Partnerships (TTP), this technology will be shared with cricket boards, academies, and associations worldwide, promoting a fair and transparent method for identifying talent. However, the advisory board has been garlanded with former cricketers like Harbhajan Singh, AB de Villiers, Sir Clive Lloyd and Matthew Hayden. Speaking about the format, ABD said, "Test Twenty is innovation with intent — it honours the traditions of the game while embracing the possibilities of the future. It gives young players a new dream to chase and fans a new story to follow." Notably, the inaugural Test Twenty season will launch in January 2026, featuring six international franchises — three from Indian cities and three from Dubai, London, and the USA. Each team will consist of 16 players, with eight Indian and eight overseas cricketers, combining local talent with global stars to usher in an exciting chapter for cricket.
