Indian industrialist and former chairman of Tata Sons Ratan Tata died at 86 after a long battle with an illness. He had for several days been in intensive care at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai, where he had been admitted due to age-related health complications. On social media earlier this week, Tata drove away the fears that were being raised about his health and told everyone not to worry about the false information getting circulated. Tata led the Tata Group from 1991 till 2012, transforming it into a global company worth over USD 100 billion. During his time, the group acquired companies like Tetley, Corus, and Jaguar Land Rover. Even after stepping down as chairman in 2012, Tata maintained his honorary status of chairman emeritus for several Tata companies. He was also known to work for charities. Also, India has honored him with its top civilian awards-the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008. He was a cricket lover and played a great role in promoting Indian cricket. Various cricketers are seen posting on their social media that they are sad over his death. Many such cricketers include Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, Virender Sehwag, Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Mohammed Shami, Suresh Raina, and Shikhar Dhawan. All have sent tribute to Tata. Sachin Tendulkar said: "In his life, and demise, Mr Ratan Tata has moved the nation. I was fortunate to spend time with him, but millions, who have never met him, feel the same grief that I feel today. Such is his impact. From his love for animals to philanthropy, he showed that true progress can only be achieved when we care for those who don’t have the means to take care of themselves. Rest in peace, Mr Tata. Your legacy will continue to live through the institutions you built and values that you embraced." Suryakumar Yadav wrote, "End of an era.The epitome of kindness, most inspirational, marvel of a man. Sir, you have touched so many hearts. Your life has been a blessing to the nation. Thank you for your endless and unconditional service. Your legacy will live on. Rest in glory, sir."
