Cricket Australia has announced its list of 23 men's central contracts for the 2025-26 season, featuring three new additions to the list. The stand-out performers from recent tournaments have been rewarded. After announcing his arrival in the recently concluded Border-Gavaskar Trophy, young batter Sam Konstas has made the cut for the contract. Along with him, the spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, who had recently gone through a bowling re-analysis test, and all-rounder Beau Webster have been added to the central contracts. Joining him are left-arm spinner Matthew Kuhnemann, who recently underwent a bowling re-analysis test, and all-rounder Beau Webster. Both have been rewarded for their consistent performances in the recent season. While the trio are the latest additions to the list, some established names have missed out. Aaron Hardie, Todd Murphy, and Sean Abbott have not been retained in the central contract setup. However, they remain key prospects for the future, considering Australia is set to play 19 bilateral T20Is across as well as the T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February and March next year. Speaking to the media after the contract announcement, Australia’s Chairman of Selectors, George Bailey, pointed out the significance of Matthew Kuhnemann’s role in the coming months. “Matt (Kuhnemann) was outstanding once again in Sri Lanka, and we believe he can play a key role across the next 18 months,” Bailey stated. Regarding Beau Webster, Bailey highlighted his versatility as an all-rounder, recognizing his ability to contribute across all facets of the game. “In Beau’s case, he proved more than comfortable at Test level with both bat and ball. He also adds an additional dimension in the field and enhances the balance of the side,” Bailey explained. Bailey also expressed confidence in Sam Konstas, believing that the young batter will continue to grow and develop at both first-class and international levels. “In Sam, we see promising upside in a young player who will continue to develop at first-class level and in the international environment,” he added.
