The Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has petitioned the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for a ban on commentators Harsha Bhogle and Simon Doull at Eden Gardens. The demand was prompted by the duo's comments regarding the pitch curator, who has been derided by Bhogle and Doull, and who even suggested that KKR move verbatim due to the lack of support in pitch preparation. The CAB's demand comes amid growing complaints from a number of IPL team captains and coaches regarding pitch conditions. As per a report from RevSportz, the CAB sent a letter to BCCI very strongly and demanded that Bhogle and Doull should not be allowed to cover matches at Eden Gardens this IPL season. On a note on Cricbuzz, Simon Doull mentioned that the Ajinkya Rahane-led KKR has to think about other venues if the Eden Gardens curator does not come to the party in cutting the pitches according to demand of the team. Doull had commented: “If he's (the curator) not taking heed of what the home team wants… I mean, they are paying the stadium fees, they are paying for what's going on in the IPL but if he's still not paying heed of what the home team wants, then just move the franchise away to somewhere else. His job is not to pass an opinion on the game. That's not what he's paid for.” Harsha Bhogle had also addecd his sentiments: “If they are playing at home, (they) should get the tracks that they think are suited for their bowlers. I saw something (about) what the KKR curator has said,” However, CAB has backed curator Sujan Mukherjee, stating that he is just following the rules set by BCCI, which clearly maintain that franchises cannot influence how the pitches are made across venues. CAB stands firm in their assertion that the curator has not deviated from his error-free work and has stuck to the guidelines developed for official pitch preparation. BCCI, however, refrains from making any official comment on the reports, which say that neither Bhogle nor Doull will be part of the commentary team on Monday when the KKR clash with Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens. Likewise, Eden Gardens is to host the IPL 2025 finals on May 25.
