In Match 32 of IPL 2025 between Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, RR skipper Sanju Samson had to walk off the field while batting as he seemed to done some damage to his left side while attempting a shot. Samson received some medical attention and was even seen taking a tablet (perhaps a painkiller) but that did not help as the wicketkeeper-batter could only carry on for one more ball and decided to retire hurt himself as he was excruciating in pain and unable to continue. The first ever batter to be retired hurt in IPL was Dominic Thornley in the first ever season in 2008. Out of the 16 total incidents, only Sachin Tendulkar, Harbhajan Singh and Krunal Pandya have been retired hurt twice making Samson the 13th batter to be retired hurt in the IPL. The most important thing to note that the batter can come back later in the innings and resume his innings from where he left off and that is why it is also known as retired not out.
