India fought back strongly on Day 2 of the fifth and last Test against England at The Oval on Friday. There was a fiery opening by England, but Indian pacers Prasidh Krishna and Mohammed Siraj aided the team's battle with the ball. England started the day well, with Zak Crawley (64) and Ben Duckett (43) adding 92 runs in a mere 13 overs. However, India gained advantage when Akash Deep sent back Duckett. Subsequently, wickets started falling rapidly. India's bowlers turn the game around Prasidh Krishna, who came back to the side, was one of the main performers. He picked up 4 wickets for 62 runs and shattered the England batting. Mohammed Siraj also picked up 4 wickets, conceding 86 runs. England was dismissed for 247, being behind by only 23 runs after being 129/1 at some stage. Among the most dramatic moments of the day was a heated exchange between Joe Root and Prasidh Krishna. They had to be restrained by umpires. However, Krishna downplayed it afterwards. Krishna added: "It was a small thing, a competitive edge. Good banter… we are good friends off the field." Krishna was also asked about the absence of Bumrah, to which he replied that every player is aware of their role. Indian pacer said: "Jasprit Bumrah playing or not playing… we know what our roles are. I have been picked here because I can do the job. Not playing earlier made me go back to the drawing board. I’m here to help the team." Root was dismissed for 29, lbw trapped by Siraj. Krishna also got rid of Crawley, Jamie Smith, and Jamie Overton. Harry Brook got 53 before Siraj bowled him. India closed Day 2 on 75/2 in their second innings. Yashasvi Jaiswal remained unbeaten on 51. India is now leading by 52 runs and hopes to have a good score on Day 3.
