England all-rounder Chris Woakes has brought an end to his 15-year international cricket career, announcing his retirement from representing England at Tests, ODIs, and T20Is. Woakes made the decision after being omitted from England's Ashes squad due to a shoulder injury sustained during the fifth Test against India in July. Rob Key, the managing director of England Men's, previously expressed that Woakes "isn't in our plans. at all," marking the end of his international journey. Woakes addressed the news with a poignant statement on Instagram, reminiscing about his experience and success. A Career Full of Milestones Woakes' last act on behalf of England was performed in a dramatic manner. In pain from a dislocated shoulder, he came out to bat at No. 11 in the Oval Test, which displayed his determination and battle spirit, although he was unable to alter the match result. Throughout his career, Woakes appeared for 62 Tests, 122 ODIs, and 33 T20Is, claiming 192 Test wickets at 29.61 and scoring a century of 137 not out in memory against India at Lord's in 2018. Woakes said: “The moment has come, and I've decided that the time is right for me to retire from international cricket." He added: “Playing for England was something I aspired to do since I was a kid dreaming in the back garden, and I feel incredibly fortunate to have lived out those dreams. Representing England, wearing the Three Lions and sharing the field with teammates over the last 15 years, many of whom have become lifelong friends, are things I'll look back on with the greatest pride.” Woakes was a member of the 2019 World Cup-winning English team and featured in all the matches of the successful 2022 T20 World Cup campaign. He also had significant roles to play in Ashes series, such as being adjudged player of the series in the 2023 Ashes under Ben Stokes' captaincy.
