The Caribbean star Chris Gayle has backed his former RCB teammate Sarfaraz Khan, saying the latter should at least be in the Test squad, if not in the eleven. Recently Sarfaraz Khan, as per reports, has lost almost 17 kilos of body weight. And Gayle thinks weight was not even an issue, especially when he was still hitting runs. Gayle attended Shubhankar Mishra's podcast where Gayle recalled Sarfaraz's century against England at home, and said, “He should be in the Test side. He should be in the Test squad at least, you know. Scored a century against England at home, not in the squad. I saw a post a couple of days ago. He lost weight. The weight wasn’t even, nothing was wrong with his weight or anything. He’s just fine. He was still scoring runs." He added, “The man scored triple centuries in first-class cricket. So if they’re using that against him, that’s sad, you know. They should never use that against him. That youngster should have been a part of the squad 100%. I mean, India have so much talent, man, but give the man a run.” Read also: Hardik Pandya on Verge of Rare T20I Record in Asia Cup 2025 What has happened to Sarfaraz Khan? Sarfaraz Khan was playing the Buchi Babu Tournament when he sustained a quadriceps injury while playing for Mumbai against Chennai. Thus, he was omitted from the recently announced India A squad against Australia A. Notably, Sarfaraz piled 4685 first-class runs in 55 List A matches, with an average of 65.98, including 16 centuries. Debuting in domestic cricket in 2020, it took him four years, to come to the international circuit. In early 2024, he played the home Test series against England, where he got a few quick half centuries. He then scored 150 runs against New Zealand at Bengaluru. Later, he was benched during the five-match Border Gavaskar series and didn't even get a call for another five-match Test Series, the Anderson-Tendulkar Series, despite playing the India A matches against the England Lions.
