Cheteshwar Pujara at last made his retirement official on Sunday after being continuously left out of the Test team for two years. His last game for India was in the 2023 WTC final, and the wait continued from there. His absence was seen in the IND vs NZ series and then the IND vs AUS series that the team lost miserably. However, let's leave that behind. Though the reasons for quitting are as clear as day, still Cheteshwar Pujara has come forward and shed light, as to why the decision was taken. In a conversation with SportsTak, the old-timer announced, his leaving would give a chance to a youngster. Here is what Pujara told Sports Tak: “This was my personal call, and I decided that this is the right time and I think the young players should get an opportunity in domestic cricket. Earlier, I thought I might play the Ranji season, but then I thought if a younger player got an opportunity, they will be groomed early, so this was my personal call” He also uncovered his most cherished wins of his career and the 2018 victory in Australia, then the 2021 win are the most memorable. "The team won a series in Australian soil for the first time in 2018 that was a special moment for me. Then in 2021, they won the Test series once again. Both of those series are very close to my heart" Pujara added. Eventually, he did retire with a glorious Test and domestic record. For 103 Tests, he had scored 7195 runs at the average of 43, with 19 tons and 35 fifties. When it comes to the FC record, he hammered 21301 runs in 278 games, at an average of 51. He had 66 tons to his name with 81 fifties.
