In the era of citizen journalism, social media undoubtedly plays a very big role in generating information, but most of the time people on the receiver's end consume those as genuine information. It is not new that people referred to those "information" coming out in public to clarify it as fake. A similar thing happened with the Indian veteran former spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, and he responded to it hilariously. A post recently went viral that said that both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had chats with Ashwin. The India captain has reportedly told him that Rohit will continue till the coming ODI World Cup in 2027, while Virat Kohli might depart to give time to his young family. The post came to Ashwin's notice, and he reposted it with a witty quote, calling it AI. He wittily encouraged storytelling but urged the makers to at least consult him before finalizing. He posted, "Heartwarming to see humans still excelling at creative storytelling in this AI era. Nice script but maybe check with me next time before casting me in the lead role?" Rohit Sharma's future is likely to be uncertain after the Champions Trophy. Even if he continues to play, his captaincy might be snatched away to scout possible captaincy candidates for the future. Taking advantage of this tension, several social media posts are surfacing. It has been the new normal, as had happened with Rishabh Pant during his transition from the Delhi Capitals to a new team. A X handle claimed that Kohli had clashes with Pant and did not want him to join Royal Challengers Bengaluru. Even then, Pant had to clarify it publicly as a fake one. In 2024, a prominent X handle, "@mufaddal_vohra,” was brought under scrutiny when he claimed that Shreyas Iyer had suffered from a shoulder injury and he would miss a match in the then Ranji Trophy. When the post reached Iyer, he lashed out on the account, asking to do some "homework" before posting. The post was later deleted, though.
