Indian captain Rohit Sharma will not have to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have decided not to hold an opening ceremony or a captains' photo session. There was a lot of talk whether Rohit would travel to Pakistan as no Indian cricketer had crossed the border since 2008. Now, he doesn't need to. The source said that neither the ICC nor the PCB had officially announced an opening ceremony, but still, the PCB didn't deny the reports, meaning the event will not happen. The government has not been very keen on sending the team to Pakistan. Though it is unclear whether the government actually stopped Rohit from going, this decision comes through like India's regular approach. It also does not help to organize an opening event. Teams are coming to Pakistan at different times. England will be arriving in Lahore on February 18, and Australia will be arriving on February 19. Since these teams are arriving just before their matches, it is not possible to get all the captains for a photo shoot or a press conference. Even though there will be no opening ceremony, Pakistan will still hold local events. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will open the renovated Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on February 7, and President Asif Ali Zardari will do the same for Karachi’s National Stadium on February 11. The PCB will also host a Champions Trophy inauguration event on February 16 at Lahore Fort, with ICC and PCB officials attending. Since there are no official pre-tournament events, Rohit Sharma and the Indian team will not have to visit Pakistan before their matches.
