Rohit Sharma continues as the captain for India in the ODIs as BCCI announces the squad for the Champions Trophy 2025. Shubman Gill will assist Rohit as the vice captain, while the team saw a comeback of Kuldeep and Shreyas Iyer in the squad. Notably, Ajit Agarkar, the chief selector of the BCCI selection committee, has clarified that Rishabh Pant will be the first choice keeper for India. However, it has been confirmed that the squad will mostly stay unchanged in the ODI Series against England. On January 18, Rohit Sharma and Agargar sat for the meeting at around 12:30 pm, and announced the squad at around 2:30 pm. Shreyas Iyer, who had been axed from the BCCI Central Contract earlier in 2024, even after a superb run in the 2023 ODI World Cup, finally got into the Indian team. Earlier, reports suggested that there were no concerns about leaving Iyer behind. Unfortunately, Karun Nair, who became a household name after scoring 752 runs in the Vijay Harare Trophy, fails to meet the cutoff for the Champions Trophy incusion. Interesting Yashasvi Jaiswal got his call for both the series and the CT2025. However, Jasprit Bumrah's appearance is yet uncertain. He suffered from back strain during the last Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy. Since then, the uncertainty has been winding around. He underwent scans, but the reports aren't revealed. In the press conference, Agarkar confirmed that Bumrah's fitness status will be informed by early February from the BCCI's medical team. Despite that, India has decided to keep Jasprit Bumrah on the provisional list but won't be playing in the ODI series against England at home. For that, Harshit Rana has been added to the squad and will feature in the ODI series. However, if he will be included in the Champions Trophy or not, is yet not known. Morever, Rohit clarified that India is planning to take only 3 seamers for the CT, and that Mohammad Siraj seems less effective if not given the new ball. Thus he chose Arshdeep Singh over Siraj to travel to Dubai for CT. #TeamIndia's squad for the Champions Trophy🔽 Rohit (C), Gill (VC), Kohli, Iyer, Rahul, Hardik, Axar, Sundar, Kuldeep, Bumrah, Shami, Arshdeep, Jaiswal, Pant, Jadeja.#ChampionsTrophy pic.twitter.com/bqYiwlWPBV — Indian Cricket Team (@incricketteam) January 18, 2025 India squad for the Champions Trophy 2025: Rohit Sharma (C), Shubman Gill (VC), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammad Shami, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rishabh Pant (wk), Ravindra Jadeja. *Harshit Rana will play in the ODI series against England, keeping Jasprit Bumrah's fitness concern.
