The Indian wicketkeeper Sanju Samson has been a quickfix for the Indian team throughout. Earlier, during the team selection pressy, Indian chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Samson was opening because Shubman Gill wasn't available. Now with Gill in as the vice captain, Samson has been forced at the lower middle order, where he normally struggles. Former Indian cricketer Kris Srikkanth feels that Samson is currently hanging in a do-or-die situation. Srikkanth, even though confused about Samson's role in the batting order, feels that a bad Asia Cup might make him lose the spot to Shreyas Iyer. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Srikkanth said, “I would tell Sanju Samson, ‘Careful Sanju, this is probably a do-or-die chance for you. They might not include you if you do not score. If you underperform for a couple of games, Shreyas Iyer might come in.'" He added, “I think shifting Sanju down the order to No. 5 is probably making way for Shreyas. Not sure if I’m right or wrong. But, think about this, Sanju hasn’t played No. 5 in T20s. His confidence might take a hit batting at No. 5 and so I’m not too happy." Shreyas Iyer has been a highly discussed name after he had a blistering session for Punjab Kings in this 2025 IPL. Normally a middle-order batter, he unexpectedly missed the chance, which surprised everyone. Meanwhile, Samson had 861 runs in the T20 Internationals, 522 of which came while opening the match. Srikkant seemed pretty confused about what role exactly Samson will do. With Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube already there to finish the game, Samson's role is not quite clear to the former cricketer. Srikkanth said, "They (India) are playing Sanju Samson in the middle-order. Are they going to use him as the finisher? No. That’ll be Hardik Pandya and Shivam Dube. So, Samson will play at 5. Will he deliver? That is a question." He added, “Sanju Samson has been included ahead of Jitesh Sharma, which is fine for Asia Cup. But what happens at the T20 World Cup?" India started their Asia Cup 2025 campaign with a massive win against UAE. However, their real challenge will come on September 14, as they will face Pakistan in Dubai
