David Bedingham made it clear that South Africa are close to making history. The batter insisted there is confidence in their camp about securing the World Test Championship (WTC) title. His team finds itself on the cusp of a huge triumph against Australia in the WTC Final 2025. The Tests seems to be dangling to and fro, touching rings on both sides. Kudos to the bowlers, though, from both sides, who kept the taste alive. When the Aussies fumbled in front of the Proteas bowlers, the lower order steadied the target over 200. Speaking to the press, Bedingham stated, “We’re very confident. I think the batters will have their plans. But yeah, I think it's an amazing day. And I think when they started batting in their third innings, I think we would have definitely had them or taken them 220-8.” He added, “So, I think you’re very confident and I think there’s a massive belief in this team.” Furthermore, the batter explained South Africa are excited about the opportunity to become world champions. “I think it's just an amazing chance and I think we’re all very, very excited about the opportunity to win. Like I said, it could go either way, but I think us as a team are very, very excited and there’s a lot of belief in the dressing room.” Read also: Finn Allen Shatters Records in MLC 2025 Innings South Africa Push Towards Title At the close of Day 2, South Africa had Australia reeling at 144/8 in their second innings. The lead stood at 218 runs when stumps fell. Kagiso Rabada (3/44) and Lungi Ngidi (3/35) struck hard to undermine Australia’s batting. The two bowlers teamed up to dismantle their top order and put South Africa in a strong position. Alex Carey (43) and Mitchell Starc (16*) fought back in the lower order. The pair added valuable runs and pushed their lead past 200. Nevertheless, the momentum remained with South Africa. In Lord’s rich history, there have been four successful chases of over 200 in the fourth innings. The most recent came in June 2022 when England successfully pursued 277 against New Zealand. South Africa are now close to breaking a 27-year ICC title drought, their last triumph having come in the 1998 Champions Trophy.
