Former Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed has been entrusted with key roles by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). A PCB source, said as quoted by PTI, “He is, you can say now the Director of the Pakistan Shaheens and junior team and will also travel with them abroad where required." According to Geo News, Sarfaraz will oversee the Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 team, monitor coaches, and manage team tours, including training and series. He joined PCB last year as a domestic team mentor and later became an advisor to the Chairman on cricket affairs. Focusing on young talent and coaching staff, Sarfaraz reportedly recommended long-term appointments to ensure accountability and effective player grooming. Sarfaraz captained Pakistan from 2016 to 2019, leading them to the 2017 Champions Trophy win over India and achieving a 70% win rate in that tournament. In T20Is, he maintained a 78.37% win rate. He played 54 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 61 T20Is, scoring over 3,000, 2,300, and 800 runs respectively, including multiple centuries and fifties. Pakistan ended a long wait for a win against India, their first since the senior Indian team had beaten them thrice in the Asia Cup two months ago. Naqvi praised the young side for their fearless performance. He tweeted, “What a proud moment for Pakistan and for the Board today! Our Pakistan Sheheens defeated India A by 8 wickets, chasing down the target in 13.2 runs. A dominant, fearless, and unforgettable performance in the Asia Cup Rising Stars Tournament in Doha." After fielding first, Pakistan bowled out India A for 136, despite a promising 91/3 start. The Shaheens chased the target in 40 balls, securing their second consecutive tournament win. Opener Maaz Sadaqat starred with 79* off 47 balls and picked up two wickets with his left-arm spin.
