Quinton de Kock is on the brink of breaking one of the most significant records in T20 World Cup history. In South Africa’s opening match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against Canada, the left-handed batsman matched MS Dhoni for the most dismissals by a wicketkeeper in the tournament. Playing at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, de Kock made two catches behind the stumps, bringing his total to 32 dismissals tying him with Dhoni, who finished his T20 World Cup career with the same number. The record is now shared, but de Kock has a golden opportunity to take the lead when South Africa faces Afghanistan on February 11 at the same venue. Quinton de Kock may overtake MS Dhoni Both of de Kock’s dismissals against Canada came during the powerplay. Fast bowler Lungi Ngidi got the edge of openers Dilpreet Bajwa and Yuvraj Samra, with de Kock expertly taking both catches. That second catch allowed him to equal Dhoni, who achieved his 32 dismissals over 32 T20 World Cup matches. De Kock, on the other hand, has reached this milestone in just 28 games. With Afghanistan next on the schedule, chances are likely to come his way. This marks QDK’s sixth T20 World Cup campaign, having made his debut in 2014. Interestingly, MS Dhoni also played in six tournaments, leading India to victory in the inaugural season in 2007, with his last match being the semi-final against the West Indies in 2016. Additionally, Quinton is the only wicketkeeper in men’s T20Is to surpass 100 dismissals, having achieved 110 in 103 matches.
