England has made addition of fast bowler Gus Atkinson to their playing eleven for the last and decisive Test match with India at The Oval. The series is currently 2-1 in England's favor, so this is a game India must win to level the series. England have made four changes in their side. Jacob Bethell, Gus Atkinson, Jamie Overton, and Josh Tongue have joined. Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer, Brydon Carse, and Liam Dawson made way. Most experts had demanded that Atkinson to be included in the side at least earlier in the series. Before the Lord's Test, some even demanded he be picked in place of Archer. But England waited for this moment to include him. Atkinson's Overall Numbers Are Impressive Gus Atkinson is a 27-year-old fast bowler who has played 12 Tests and picked up 55 wickets in 23 innings. His average is 22.3, and his strike rate is 35.7, both are excellent. But his economy rate is 3.74, which is just average. In England, he has represented the team in 7 Tests and has taken 37 wickets in 14 innings. But he hasn't played against India yet. His previous opponents have been New Zealand, Pakistan, West Indies, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe. But his form at The Oval has been weak. He played only one Test here and took only one wicket in two innings. He also conceded a lot of runs in that game. His career's best outing was at Lord's, where he claimed 12 wickets in a single Test. However, his recent performance is not impressive. He has claimed just nine wickets in the last six innings of his last three County matches. Final Take: Is Atkinson a Big Threat? Considering his shape and record at The Oval in the past, Atkinson does not look likely to pose a significant challenge to India. He is a capable bowler, but India can probably manage him more comfortably than perhaps some other bowlers.
