The Aghanistan and GT leg-spinner has now become a part of one of the biggest conversations after making the revelation about receiving an informal offer of citizenship from both India and Australia. The Afghanistan ace, who has been an integral part of the Indian Premier League for many years, made these claims in his book titled 'Rashid Khan: From Streets to Stardom'. The current Gujarat Titans player in IPL 2026 also revealed during the 2023 season, he was approached by a person who is associated with Indian cricket, and this person during a conversation allegedly proposed him to move to India with citizenship along with an opportunity to represent India in cricket. Rashid, in his book, quoted: "I received such offers (citizenship and playing) from both Australia and India. But I told them, 'If I don't play for my country, I won't play for any other country either." He further added: "I went over and greeted him. We started talking, and he said: 'The situation in your country (Afghanistan) is very bad. Come stay in India. We will give you Indian documents, live here, play cricket here.' I was surprised by what he was saying and didn't know how to respond. But I smiled and said, 'Thank you very much. I am playing for my country, Afghanistan.'" The biggest question surrounding these allegations is whether the BCCI can take action against Rashid Khan. While there isn't a particular rule against making such public statement at the moment, it is something which cannot be ignored by the board considering it is based on the former's reputation. The BCCI can, at this point, have clarification from Rashid and ask him for evidence to back his statements. If the BCCI feels that its reputation has been tarnished, then the board may opt for legal action or some disciplinary measures against the star all-rounder. In the worst case scenario, the board may even issue sanctions, which could include banning him from the IPL but strong proof would be required for that. No official statement has been released by the BCCI on this matter yet. Rashid Khan's IPL 2026 Performance & GT's Stand On the contrary to all this on-field conversation, Rashid Khan has been fully focused on his IPL 2026 campaign. After a mediocre performance in IPL 2025, he seems to have found his mojo back in the 16th edition. In five matches this season, Rashid Khan has already taken six wickets at an economy rate of 7.70. The highlight of his IPL 2026 campaign has come against the Delhi Capitals where he grabbed three wickets for 17 runs off his four overs. Gujarat Titans have had a mixed season so far and find themselves at the sixth position in the points table with three wins in five matches. The Titans will play their next match against Mumbai Indians on April 20, 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
