Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to be fit in time for the Test series against India, which starts on November 22 at Perth. Green suffered a back spasm while fielding during the third ODI against England last month. Initially, fears were that he might even miss the Border-Gavaskar Trophy altogether, but he is reported to be fit enough to feature as a batter right from the beginning of the series. He could even start bowling again by the end of the home series. Details of Green's injury will be unveiled by Cricket Australia at the end of this week, but already there are plans in place to manage the pace man's recovery and perhaps prevent him from bowling until later in the Test summer. He may though turn up as a batter for Australia A in a game against India A at the Melbourne Cricket Ground in November. Former Australian doctor Peter Brukner remarked that a stress injury to the back should not prevent Green from batting or fielding in Test matches once the pain decreases and healing begins. Brukner said: "The load comes mainly from bowling—batting and fielding don’t put a huge load on that part of the body, so it’s feasible that once the pain settles down you can bat and field without too many problems and feel fine." He added: "It’s just that if you were to bowl 10 overs, you’d probably break down again. So it’s a case of slowly building up the load so the bone basically adjusts to the load and gets stronger. There’s a bit of an art to it." Green has played 28 Tests in which he has scored 1,377 runs and taking 35 wickets. He was also a part of Australia's winning team in the 2023 World Test Championship final.
