Australia’s ODI squad faced a sudden shake-up as Cameron Green was ruled out of the upcoming India series due to low-grade side soreness, confirmed on Friday. The 26-year-old allrounder, recovering from back surgery last year, had only recently returned to competitive bowling. To fill the gap, Marnus Labuschagne was added to the squad and is set to join the team in Perth after completing his Sheffield Shield commitments with Queensland. Green had limited bowling in recent Shield matches, restricted to four overs in the opening round due to medical advice. His original schedule aimed at gradual load-building targeted later matches in the Shield to prepare him for unrestricted bowling in the Ashes. However, soreness following a training session forced a precautionary withdrawal. He will undergo a short rehabilitation period, with the hope of returning for Western Australia’s third Shield match against South Australia in 11 days. Dropped from the ODI squad earlier due to lean performance, he has since regained momentum with scores of 130 and 105 in the One-Day Cup. Australia’s ODI line-up is already managing multiple absences. Test captain Pat Cummins is unavailable for the series, while wicketkeeper Josh Inglis will miss at least the first two ODIs with a calf strain. Additionally, Adam Zampa and Alex Carey will miss the Perth ODI for personal and domestic cricket commitments. Despite these challenges, teammates expressed confidence in the squad’s preparation. Travis Head noted, “I don’t think it will have any impact on the Ashes. It’s more disappointing that he’s not here at the moment, but he’ll work through it.” Labuschagne’s addition ensures Australia retains a key batting option while maintaining depth in all-round resources. The first ODI against India in Perth will test the team’s adaptability amidst injuries and absences.
