Team India is currently dealing with a major issue as their ace bowler Jasprit Bumrah is still in the recovery phase. It is being said that he is unlikely to recover in time for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, which is set to commence from February 19. Jasprit Bumrah has been playing a crucial role in India’s success across the formats. There is no doubt that the Indian team wants their premier bowler fit for another ICC event. Jasprit Bumrah suffered a back injury during the Sydney Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. There is still not a confirmed date for his return. Former India head coach, Ravi Shastri, recently shared his views and said that in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah India’s chances of winning the Champions Trophy will be reduced by 30 percent. On ICC Review, Ravi Shastri said: “Bumrah not fit will reduce India’s chances (of winning the Champions Trophy) by 30%, literally by 30-35%. With a fully fit Bumrah playing, you are guaranteed of those death overs. It would’ve been a different ball game altogether.” Shastri further said that Jasprit Bumrah is a key figure for the Indian team and he should not be rushed because a hectic schedule is already on the line for the team. He further said: “I think it’s high risk. There’s too much big cricket coming up for India. And at this stage of his career, I think he’s too precious to be just called on for one game out of the blue and asked to deliver. The expectations will be so much. They’ll think that he’ll come in straight away and set the world on fire. It’s never that easy when you come back from injury.” Currently, Jasprit Bumrah’s participation is still not confirmed yet and he is unlikely to feature in the ODI series against England. In case he sustains his full recovery ahead or during the Champions Trophy then he might get some league games or he will be directly participating in the knockout matches if India qualifies.
