India's present-day bowling great Jasprit Bumrah is undergoing uncertainty for the 2025 Champions Trophy due to a back pain issue. According to a report of the Times of India, a BCCI source has revealed that it is unrealistic that Bumrah will be fit by the time the tounament starts. New Zealand's orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Rowan Schouten, who looked after Bumrah during his 2021 back injury, is monitoring him this time also. And as long as the reports are not coming, nothing can be confirmed. The source said, “The BCCI medical team is in touch with Schouten in New Zealand. The board had also planned a visit for Bumrah to New Zealand. But that hasn’t happened yet. The selectors know it will be a miracle if Bumrah turns up 100% fit in the given timeline." Since then, BCCI has been sceptical about his availability. That Bumrah has not been added to the T20I squad against England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar showed faint hope that Bumrah might play the last of the three ODIs against England. He was even added to the provisional 15-man squad for the Champions Trophy alongside Arshdeep Singh and Mohammad Shami. But presently, everything is hanging in doubt! Presently, according to the source, BCCI is planning to send Bumrah to New Zealand. But that will depend on the reports from the BCCI medical team. The source added, “The reports will be shared with his doctor in New Zealand. Sending Bumrah to New Zealand will depend on the feedback. The board and Bumrah himself are not willing to push hard given his significance over a long period of time. The selectors will only be informed if he is ready to take the field after the entire process is complete. The selectors will need to keep a backup plan ready for him. It will be a miracle if Bumrah makes it." Teams can make changes to the Champions Trophy squad until February 11. Harshit Rana, selected for the England series in January due to Bumrah's absence, may retain his spot. Sources suggest former world No. 1 ODI bowler Mohammed Siraj could also be considered if Bumrah misses out.
