When the cricket critics are predicting some pressure in the Indian circuit followed by the 0-3 whitewash in the home Test series against New Zealand, India's interim captain, Jasprit Bumrah, waved off all such claims before the Border Gavakar Trophy starts. In the pre-match press conference, Bumrah accepted that they were "disappointed and down," but has assured to "start from zero." The Border—Gavaskar Trophy will start tomorrow, November 22, with the first test being played at Perth. Rohit Sharma, the regular Test captain for India, is on paternal leave. Thus, Jasprit Bumrah, the vice captain, will lead the team in his absence. In the press conference, Bumrah said, "Even if you win, you start from 0. If you lose, you start from 0. That's the beauty of cricket. Obviously, when we won the World Cup, it didn't mean we would become complacent in other series. That's how I am looking at. Obviously, we were disappointed and down that we had a tough series last time. But, we are not carrying any baggage. We come with a fresh mindset, and different opposition. And we come to learn from the changes that have happened in the team. We are not carrying any baggage from India. We are trying to be positive and play good cricket." Is it really not a pressure? Getting whitewashed would really not have been a legit reason for disappointment if defeats were not at big margins. The Kiwis won the first by 8 wickets, the second by 113 runs, while the last looked better, winning by 25 runs. The Kiwis not only crushed the age-old ego of Indians staying undefeated but have also triggered questions about the batters' form, strategy making, and definitely a shift in coaching mindset. Read: BGT 2024-25: 7 Players to Watch Out in the High-Stakes Series Speaking of batting form, none looks in good rythm, except for Rishabh Pant. Apart from crying for a basic seniority, Rohit Sharma too looked struggling, scoring just 91 runs with one half century. The other big name that had provided shoulders to the batting line-up scored 91 runs, having one 71-run innings in the second inning of the first Test. Forget about the last series; Kohli has been struggling since a long time with the bat, if not with fielding. Baring Rishabh Pant, none have been consistent in the series, not even Shubman Gill or Yashavi Jaiswal, who are believed to score the major runs. However, added tension now is Shubman Gill's thumb fracture, for which he won't be playing for at least 14 days. KL Rahul, who is being looked at as a potential substitute for Rohit Sharma, is struggling too. Except for him, the other two keepers, Pant and Dhruv Jurel, if he gets a chance, can uplift the game, and definitely if some deja vu happens to Kohli once he walks in Perth. Otherwise, Jasprit Bumrah's words may get crashed, and it may happen before the stipulated time period of the first Test.
