The head coach of Brisbane Heat has had a say about their most critical player of the BBL|16 season and has labeled one of their crucial players a big one for BBL|16. Johan Botha was speaking about the experienced Aussie star Usman Khawaja. Khawaja, whose contract expired with The Heat in BBL|15. Botha made it crystal clear that the veteran batter was in their future plans. Botha said: "I think it will all work out and he will play for the Heat. He's obviously a good player all around the country. I think he'll be crucial (to have) around all our young batters in the squad. And with that 'DH' (designated hitter) rule coming in, he might be that guy for us." Khawaja who earlier this year retired from international cricket after the Sydney Test on day 5 had earlier in the season finished up his career in first-class cricket after the failure of Queensland to qualify for the Sheffield Shield final. Once the innings is finished, he is to swap with one of the fielders. This new rule could just see veterans like Khawaja prolonging their T20 career. Botha thinks that the rule fits Khawaja in perfectly. Khawaja also intends to play T20 cricket and is eager to re-sign for the Heat after the embargo on player contracts finishes. While discussions can take place now, actual signings for BBL|16 cannot take place until the embargo is lifted. The left-hander has been a pivotal player for The Heat in the Big Bash. In 73 matches he has smashed 2240 runs at a strike rate of 132.54 and hit 15 fifties and 2 centuries. The player also played a massive role in winning Sydney Thunder their first ever Big Bash title back in BBL|05 where he made a ton in the semi final and 70 in the final. In his personal life he has also recently had a baby girl by his wife Rachel and has named his daughter Amira Maya and missed Queensland's last game of the season for the same reason. Marnus Labuschagne and Michael Neser who are currently unsigned with The Heat but Botha hopes that they will sign a deal but their absence might cause problems with Australia's tour to India next year. Botha said: "They are the Heat brand those two guys and I can't really see that it won't work out.". The Heat already had ten players signed with the team before the embargo commenced after BBL|15.
