Cricket South Africa (CSA) has named a 16-man team for the coming two-match Test series against Zimbabwe, which will get underway on June 28 in Bulawayo. There are some new faces in the team, with some senior players being rested after preparing for the World Test Championship final against Australia. One of the largest points of discussion is the selection of 22-year-old Dewald Brevis, who will be making his Test debut. A dynamic performer in white-ball cricket, Brevis has also made a mark in the red-ball domestic arena, amassing 573 runs across 12 innings during the 2024–25 season. Joining him is 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius, who too has been picked for his consistent performance in domestic cricket and is set to make his debut. The young batsman became the talk of the town with a debut century and followed up with a gritty hundred in the final of the season. Besides Brevis and Pretorius, three other uncapped players Lesego Senokwane, Codi Yusuf, and Prenelan Subrayen have also been named in the team. CSA's move is evidence of the clear intent of offering new talent game time at the highest level. Also Read | CLT20 Comeback? Injured pacers Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, and Lizaad Williams are also going through rehabilitation and were not in the running. Both Tests will be played at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo, between June 28 and July 2 and July 6 to 10. With a blend of experience and youth, this series is an ideal platform for South Africa's next crop of cricketers to stand out.
