The Duke's ball has been the talk of the town during the five-match Test series, mostly because of its shape and character. While bowlers are complaining about the behavior of the ball, former English captain Alastair Cook mocked the complaints, saying bowlers are "moaning" when it's them who can't bowl. England is having an upper hand currently in the Anderson-Tendulkar Series after the gutsy win at Lord's. Well, despite that, batters from both sides did have great days at Leeds and Edgbaston, no matter what the result was. Watching the bowling, Cook humorously trolled the bowlers, saying they were giving excuses. Speaking to the BBC Sports, Cook said, "I just love how bowlers are always moaning. It's like they bowl a bad ball and it's never their fault. They've scraped the footmark If they bowl a bad ball, they look at the ball and blame the shape." Notably, the Indian bowlers were seen multiple times scrutinizing the balls. They were even seen frustrated and had animated chats with the on-field umpires when the latter refused to change the balls as per requests. But it must be affecting the batters and not the bowlers. Cook added, "I think a batsman would much rather hit some slightly harder ball. Nothing worse than playing a lovely cover drive like I used to and it going nowhere." While Cook kept it light, Nasser Hussain slammed India's ball change request in the third Test, calling it “bizarre” given the swing on offer. “Why change a ball doing this much?” he questioned. The controversy adds spice to a thrilling series where tactics, momentum, and conditions keep shifting. With India needing a win at Old Trafford on July 23, the Dukes ball may again be in the spotlight.
