Isaac McDonald, Optus Stadium's head curator, has revealed that the pitch for the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy will have bounce, providing a stern test of fast-bowling conditions. The highly anticipated Border Gavaskar Trophy will kick off on November 22, with Perth's Optus Stadium hosting the first Test. India recently suffered a 0-3 humiliating whitewash against New Zealand in the 3-match home test series, where India was provided a spin-friendly pitch in all three matches. India, failing to stand firm there, is entering a pace-friendly pitch in Australia that too without a practice match. Indians were asked to have an intra-squad practice match, which they denied and concentrated on the center-wicket practice at the WACA. Thus, India will have limited exposure to the conditions, even though they need to win at least 4 of the 5 test matches. It has the same local clay and grass as the famous WACA pitch and will be only the fifth Test with a capacity of 60,000 seats. The upcoming India clash is expected to boost local excitement, with a fast, bouncy surface that has produced thrilling contests before. While speaking to ESPNCricinfo, McDonald said, "We're setting ourselves up for really good pace, really good bounce, and really good carry." McDonald also informed that the pitch will have at least 10 millimeters of live grass, which will enhance speed for fast bowlers like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Mitchell Starc, making batters' lives hell on it. While explaining, McDonald recalled Pakistan's 89-run all-out innings at the Optus Stadium last year and is hoping India to face the same. The pitch had the blame for significant deterioration as the match went on, with opening cracks producing unpredictable bounces and low-skidding deliveries. Even the Aussie batters, namely Usman Khwaja and Marnus Labuschagne, took several blows on the body. McDonald clarified that the pitch won't behave differently from the last time's match, believing only skilled batters to thrive on it. India, traditionally a spin hub, after having a deplorable show to spin is now going to face the Aussies on a deadly bouncy track in a must-win series.
