A bizarre and amusing incident occurred during the Pakistan v New Zealand final of the Pakistan ODI Tri-Series 2025 at the National Stadium, Karachi. During the game, a black cat mysteriously appeared onto the field, catching everyone's eyes. Players, umpires, and spectators alike were all taken aback as the cat stole the limelight. Seamer Will O'Rourke (4-43) was the leader of New Zealand's neat bowling as they bowled out the hosts for 242 with three deliveries remaining in their innings. Daryl Mitchell (57) and Tom Latham (56) hit fifties as New Zealand romped home with 28 balls to spare, remaining unbeaten in the tournament that also featured South Africa. Choosing to bat, Pakistan continued losing wickets every time a partnership was about to flourish. Captain Mohammad Rizwan (46) and Salman Agha (45) built an 88-run fourth-wicket partnership but boundaries were not forthcoming. Tayyab Tahir (38) and Faheem Ashraf (22) chipped in with some helpful runs down the order but Pakistan lost their final five wickets for 47 runs to leave themselves a below-par score. Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah dismissed opener Will Young in the second over but New Zealand's top-order batsmen, with Pakistan's poor catching and abysmal use of the review facility, chipped in with valuable cameos to keep their run-chase on target. Pakistan pulled themselves back into the game after dismissing Devon Conway (48) and Kane Williamson (34) but were unable to push their dominance. They squandered a review in their eagerness to have Williamson lbw and failed to avail the option when Latham was adjudged not out when he was trapped plumb in front. Latham received two more let-offs as Shaheen Afridi dropped a return catch and Saud Shakeel floored a sitter at square leg. Abrar Ahmed clung to a return catch to get rid of Mitchell but Latham made Pakistan pay for their looseness and continued to score his fifty. Latham's good fortune finally ran out when Abrar took a catch in the deep - injuring his neck in the process -- but it came too late for the hosts as New Zealand were on the brink of winning
