Australia pacer Mitchell Starc has given a miss to practice sesion on Tuesday for Sydney Cricket Ground. The pacer played with a back injury in the fourth Test at Melbourne Cricket Board. He had reported after the match that he is fit and declared his availability for the final Test against India, but there seems to be an air of skepticism around that too, especially now after he stayed away from training. General soreness, it is reported and expected to respond well to long spells. This can also leave the 34-year-old playing with discomfort in certain situations. It will then reduce Australia to having one less seamer. There was a scenario at Gabba when Josh Hazlewood came out with calf injury and ruled out of that Test. They might then push Sean Abbott to play before Starc. Other than that, it looks as though we got through pretty unscathed,” McDonald also said Mitchell Marsh needs to perform much better but downplayed it further, pointing out that the team went on to win the game. He has only managed to score 73 runs in four games and got three wickets as an all-rounder. His form is a cause of concern and for the same reason, the team management can give him a break from the Sydney Test and give opportunity to Josh Inglis, who's likely to feature in the Sri Lanka series. “He’s in a good [head] space. Would you like better performances? There’s no doubt about that. Over four Test matches, he hasn’t been able to deliver at the level he would like and we would like. He’s up and about, though. We just won a Test match,” McDonald said about Marsh. All-rounder Beau Webster may be another to replace Marsh as he was already called up after the Gabba Test and can well replace Marsh if the team management ends up giving him a break.
