Australia off-spinner Nathan Lyon has suggested a radical change for the WTC final. As his side prepared to leave for limited-overs games against Scotland and England, Lyon proffered that the WTC final should instead be expanded to a three-match affair in different locations rather than a one-match game at one venue. Lyon said: "One thing I would like to see. I'd like to see the World Test Championship Final, potentially in a three-match series. That may become a little bit better because you, potentially, can lose using a Test match in one session where [in a three-match series] it may allow teams to bounce back, you show their dominance and win 3-0. We're pretty time-poor anyway and that's going to be a challenge, but that's one thing I would change." For now, the WTC final is one game, always hosted in England, and that will move to Lord's Cricket Ground in 2025. Lyon thinks teams having three games at varied venues would mean a little bit better chance if something goes wrong in one game. So far, the WTC final has been a long, arduous one-off match. India has lost a final twice: once in 2021 to New Zealand, then in 2023 to Australia. In the 2021 final, India lost on the extra reserve day. In 2023, Australia clearly outplayed India. Lyon believes having three matches would give teams another go even if they experience a rough start. The dates for the 2025 WTC final were announced on Tuesday. It will take place from June 11 to June 15 at Lord's Cricket Stadium in London. Also Read | Top 10 Cricketers with Most Runs in Test Cricket
