The highly anticipated IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will be held on Saturday, May 17, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. But rain could dampen the occasion, as weather reports predict heavy showers in the city. Weather Update: Rain Expected on Match Day 🚨 BREAKING: Rain threat looms large over the KKR-RCB game. @Fancricket12 brings you latest weather update from Bengaluru. @ThumsUpOfficial #Breaking #WeatherUpdate #BengaluruWeatherUpdate #RCBvsKKR #IPL2025 pic.twitter.com/VJHlsFdyFS — RevSportz Global (@RevSportzGlobal) May 17, 2025 Bengaluru is likely to witness thunderstorms and heavy rain on Saturday, particularly in the evening, as per Accuweather. Rain or thundershowers are also expected in the evening, according to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). The temperature during the day is likely to be around 31°C, dropping to about 22°C at night. There is an 84% chance of rain during the day and a 56% chance in the evening. Thunderstorms could also hit, with a 50% chance in the day and 34% in the evening. Rain is likely to last for an hour or more in the evening. Practice Sessions Affected by Weather Rain has already disrupted the training routines of the teams. RCB had an early training session on Friday, between 2 pm and 5 pm, to evade the night showers. RCB's Director of Cricket Mo Bobat stated that they had scheduled an early session due to unguaranteed weather. KKR began their practice at 5 pm but were forced to conclude in only 90 minutes because of rain. On Thursday, RCB was unable to train at all owing to unfavorable weather. They have 11 points and two more games to play. If this match is abandoned and points are equally divided, their maximum reach would be 14 and that might not be sufficient for making it to the playoffs. KKR has already lost due to rain this season. Their game against Punjab Kings (PBKS) was also abandoned previously. They now have not only to win both the remaining matches but also expect other teams to lose for a playoff opportunity. RCB in a Better Spot RCB are better placed. With 16 points and three matches remaining, they need only one more victory to seal a playoff berth. Even if Saturday's game gets rain-affected, they can still make it and finish as high as two. RCB's match at the same venue against Punjab Kings last month had been reduced to 14 overs per team because of rain. Everyone's eyes will be on the sky in Bengaluru on Saturday. Although the fans would like to have a thrilling contest between RCB and KKR, the weather might spoil the party once again. If the rain holds off, it will be an important match for both teams in the playoff hunt. The drainage system at Bengaluru is one the best in India and hence, a truncated game can be expected if rain stops early.
