After Moeen Ali, the other England all rounder has pulled himself out of England’s highly celebrated league, The Hundred. However, unlike Ali, Stokes has cited different reasons. According to a report from ESPNCricinfo, the 33 years old England red ball captain wants to focus more on England’s greatest rivalry Test series, The Ashes. The hamstring issue has been triggering Stokes for a long time. Appearing during the 2024 Hundred, Stokes suffered yet again during a domestic tournament. But he underwent surgery after it reappeared again against New Zealand in the Test series. Since then, he has been sidelined. Earlier, he had to miss the Test series against Sri Lanka and later a Test against Pakistan. He is not even in the Champions Trophy squad. The report from ESPNCricinfo further suggested that Ben Stokes has decided to skip playing for the Northern Superchargers following discussions with head coach Andrew Flintoff. Stokes’s decision somehow indicates his slight fear for his injury prone body, a gentle scratch might force him to miss the crucial campaign against Australia. Before that, they will host India for a five-Test series in the middle of the year, a contest Ben Stokes is eager to be part of. The success of Brendon McCullum's side heavily depends on Stokes' ability to perform with both bat and ball, something that has been hindered by ongoing fitness concerns. With Stokes unavailable for this year’s Hundred tournament, the Northern Superchargers have appointed Harry Brook as their centrally contracted player, valued at almost $400,000 AUD. The team has also secured the services of Colin Ingram, Adil Rashid, and Australian all-rounder Matt Short, with the competition set to begin in August.
