England Test and limited-overs captains Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler have both agreed to two-year central contracts with the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB). Stokes was on a one-year contract, while Buttler had been on a two-year deal. This year, seven of 29 players with central contracts signed for two years, 19 are on annual contracts, and three hold England Development contracts. Among the newcomers is wicketkeeper-batter Jamie Smith, who has agreed a two-year deal under the new multi-year contract system. Smith will be the first to ink a central deal; he is one of five who have signed for one year. The other four are Will Jacks, Shoaib Bashir, Phil Salt, and Olly Stone. John Turners joins Jacob Bethell and Josh Hull in the England Development setup. Fast bowler Gus Atkinson has signed a two-year deal with ECB after renewing his contract. Spinner Jack Leach, and Left-arm pacer Reece Topley, have signed new one-year deals, each. With this refreshed contract structure contracted with ECB, stability comes with the recognition of the contribution of players across the three formats and is also planning for future and next gen talent.
