The England Test captain Ben Stokes has been ruled out from the fifth Test at Kia Oval starting today, July 31st. Not just him; two other key fast bowlers from his side, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse, have been rested too. Even though ECB did not mention the cause behind dropping Archer and Carse, Stokes suffered from a right shoulder injury. Speaking about the injury concerns, Stokes said that the tight schedule has been an issue with the teams, especially the bowlers. For India, Jasprit Bumrah's availability was confirmed for three Tests only since his arrival in England. Rest, India has been rotating the bowlers expect Mohammed Siraj who is likely to play the all five (unlikely to rested for the fifth Test). Acknowledging the struggle for both teams, Stokes said that a break of five days between two Tests is still a better choice if 8 days sounds "too much." Addressing the issue in the press conference, Stokes said, "Maybe you could look at the gaps between games in five-match series. If you had, say, eight, nine, or even five days between Tests for consistency, it might help... It’s been tough on both teams, with many overs bowled and much time spent in the field. But that’s part of the game." He once again praised the efforts of Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja and even acknowledged their choice of sticking there for the century. But, like before, he still mentioned that he didnt want to tire his boys, especially when its not going to yield any result. Stokes said, “No regrets. When you’re not in the field for 250 overs, you gain some understanding of both sides. Jadeja and Washington played incredibly well up to that point, and I understand why they wanted to stay out there for their hundreds." He added, “As I said at the end of the game: fair enough. I wasn’t going to bowl my bowlers in a situation where we couldn’t win and risk injuries. India and we are both past it. Let’s not focus too much on a 20-minute period in what’s been a great series." At Manchester, Stokes asked Jadeja to shake hands and call it a draw with almost an hour left to play. Jadeja at 89 and Washi at 80, denied taking the offer and carried on till both got their century. Notably, with the draw, India still have a chance to draw the series if they can win the fifth Test at Kia Oval, London, starting today, July 31st.
