Ben Sawyer, who guided the New Zealand women's team to their first-ever T20 World Cup win earlier this year, has been re-appointed as the team's head coach for two years. Sawyer will stay with the team till December 2026 and travel with the team during the women's ODI World Cup in India in 2025 and the women's T20 World Cup in England in 2026. Sophie Devine, the white ball captain for the New Zealand women's cricket team sounds happy with the decision. She said, "I'm stoked Ben's re-signed with us. The work he's done with the White Ferns group and for women's cricket in New Zealand has been huge. The team is in a great spot right now, so I think locking him in for another two years and having that consistency will be big for us." Earlier, Sawyer served the Australian women's cricket as their assistant coach. He then joined the New Zealand women's cricket team, having a two-year contract since June 2022. His term ended in October this year. They won just one T20I among the 13 T20Is they played. With that, they entered the T20 World Cup in the UAE and defeated South Africa, winning the title. Liz Green, NZC head of women's high performance, is "pleased" to have Sawyer back in the team. She said, "He's unlocked a lot of belief and trust in this group and to have him stay now is massive, both for the current squad, and the long-term planning for the White Ferns. The consistency and stability is important." New Zealand is set to face Australia in a three-match ODI series starting on December 19 in Wellington. The squad for the series will be revealed later this week. Additionally, NZC announced that the T20 World Cup trophy will be showcased at the upcoming games, allowing fans to view it up close and take photos.
