Former English cricketer David Lloyd has likened Ben Duckett to Virender Sehwag following the left-hander's match-winning century against India at Headingley in Leeds during the first Test in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Ben Duckett delivered a remarkable century at Headingley on June 24, playing a key role in England's successful chase of 371, which led to a five-wicket win on the final day. The left-handed opener hit 149 off 170 deliveries in the fourth innings, including 21 fours and a six. Lloyd compared Duckett's performances with Sehwag's against England, terming Duckett's contribution similar to what the great Indian opening batman did to the English bowlers in the longest version of the game. The former cricketer and commentator, while pointing to Duckett's hockey origin, mentioned that the reverse sweep is a natural shot for the left-handed batsman. Here is what Lloyd wrote in his Daily Mail column “Ben Duckett has come a long way since he poured a drink over Jimmy Anderson on an Ashes tour. He is now England’s answer to Virender Sehwag and opening the batting in your World XI. The reverse sweep is such a natural shot for him. He plays it for fun. It’s no surprise to learn he was a good hockey player at school because it’s like a hockey shot,” Also Read: Will Jasprit Bumrah play all Tests? Coach Gambhir provides huge update after loss at Headingley The English opener, who also scored a fifty in the first innings at Headingley, has amassed 2621 runs in 34 Test matches, maintaining a solid average of 43.68 and an exceptional strike rate of 86.19. On the other hand, Sehwag ended his international career by scoring 8586 runs in 104 Tests at an average of 49.34 and a strike rate of 82.24. Sehwag possesses the best strike rate in Test cricket by any batter with a minimum of 3000 runs. Duckett can claim this record as his during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy since he requires 379 runs from a total of four Test matches in order to join the 3000-run club. The second Test between India and England is set to take place at the historic Edgbaston ground in Birmingham on Wednesday, July 2.
