England opener Ben Duckett made a bold claim ahead of the third ODI in the three-match series against India, saying that they are eyeing the ICC Champions Trophy final and nothing else. Even so, he diminished the series' relevance against India, saying that a 0-3 result wouldn't affect them much. England will face India in the dead rubber final match of the series on February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Before this, they had already lost the first two ODIs at Nagpur and Cuttack. After Cuttack's 4-wicket defeat, Ben Duckett spoke to Sky Sports. He said, "We have come here for one thing and that is to win the Champions Trophy. If we lose 3-0 to India, I don't care as long as we beat them in the final of the Champions Trophy. It's about peaking at the right time. We've been close against India and been nowhere near our best. We will always take positives." At Cuttack, it was England who won the toss and walked into bat first. Ben Duckett, alongside Phil Salt, gave a blistering start with an 81-run partnership in between. The partnership ended as Duckett was dismissed while attempting to attack left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja during the 16th over. Duckett made 65 runs off 56 balls before getting dismissed. However, McCullum was disappointed with Duckett's dismissal after reaching 65. Reflecting on that, Duckett said, "I am not content with getting 65. But I wouldn't change anything I did. Until I got out I played nicely. [McCullum] will never have a go at me for trying to hit a left-arm spinner for six over midwicket with a shot I play time and again. Stick to the options we practice, there will be no complaints inside the changing room." In the post-match press conference after Cuttack's defeat, England captain Jos Buttler stressed that no England batter played a big knock and urged his team to learn from Rohit Sharma's aggressive approach. After the ODI series against India, England will head to Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025 preparations, starting with Australia on February 22 in Lahore.
