The assistant coach of Dhaka Capitals, Mahbub Ali Zaki, tragically succumbed during the warm-up before a Bangladesh Premier League match. Zaki, 59, was given CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) by the team's medical staff but he could not make it. The coach was rushed to the Al Haramain Hospital, where he was declared dead. Debashis Chowdhury, the chief physician of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), confirmed the news. Despite the sudden death, Zaki was never reported to have sustained health issues before this. Notably, the incident was right before the match between Dhaka Capitals and Rajshahi Warriors at the Sylhet International Stadium. Following the incident, even players rushed to the hospital and observed a minute's silence during the innings break. Who was Mahbub Ali Zaki? Zaki, a former fast bowler, played for Comilla District in the National Cricket Championship and featured for top Dhaka Premier Division clubs like Abahani and Dhanmondi. Following his retirement, he transitioned into coaching and joined the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) in 2008 as a High Performance coach. He significantly contributed to nurturing Bangladesh’s fast-bowling talent, including guiding Taskin Ahmed during the evaluation of his bowling action at the 2016 T20 World Cup in India. After his demise BCB expressed their gratitude and wrote on their official X handle, “Mahbub Ali Zaki’s dedication and invaluable contribution to the development of fast bowling and Bangladesh cricket will be remembered with profound respect and gratitude." Dhaka Capitals wrote, “We are deeply saddened by this irreparable loss. May his soul rest in peace and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family."
